2007-2008 Mini-Grant Program

 

The Office of Minority Male Health (OMMH) is pleased to announce it’s 2007-2008 Mini-Grant Program and invites members of the University community to apply. Grants ranging from $200 to $1000 will be awarded to the individuals, groups of individuals or organizations selected by The Office of Minority Male Health.

 

The OMMH Mini-Grant will be given to any individual, groups of individuals or campus organizations to design and implement activities that promote:

v      Positive influence regarding exercise and nutrition with an approach that aims to change the target groups knowledge, attitudes, skills and lifestyle.

v      Awareness, knowledge, and attitudes about risky behavior (i.e. Substance abuse, violence, unintended pregnancy, binge drinking etc.)

v      Academic Achievement and social/emotional support to Black and Hispanic middle and high school students in the Coatesville Area and Avon Grove School Districts.

v      Positive enriching educational, cultural and career activities during and after school hours, to build personal, social and leadership skills.

v      The physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of males and encourage a healthy lifestyle

 

Our office is inclined to give favorable consideration to projects that:

v      Promote wellness and healthy living amongst male students at Lincoln University and amongst males in the city of Coatesville, and communities in Chester County, PA

v      Move the community to higher awareness of men’s health issues

v      Provide nutrition, education and fitness information through literature, workshops and outreach programs with campus and community organizations.

v      Increase the knowledge and awareness about chronic diseases particularly those affecting the mortality of the minority males.

v      Conduct smoking cessation workshops, seminars on alcohol use and abuse dangers, introduce strategies for effective stress management

Applications must be submitted no later than July 20, 2007. Awards may be announced during August 2007 and funds will be distributed in September and February 2008 for the projects in the 2007-2008 academic year.
